"And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee", Deuteronomy 28:10
At some point in our Christian life, we all receive a revelation of how blessed we are in Christ. This is a time when our faith and hope go through the roof. We begin to believe that Jesus died so that as he is, so also are we in this world. This promise is repeated many times in scripture, such as here in Deuteronomy 28. Notice that the blessing to walk as Jesus did is something that GOD gives to us and not something that we achieve through our own efforts. The problem then is that although we receive the revelation, we do not see the evidence of it in our lives immediately. We notice our imperfections and weaknesses and this is an entry point for the devil to spread fear and unbelief. We are not understanding that the blessing comes in seed form, rather than as immediate fruit.
"But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.", Luke 8:15
The rendering of this parable is slightly different in Luke to that of Matthew. In Luke's account, we are to bear fruit with patience, whereas Matthew talks about bearing fruit gradually over time, first 30 fold then 60 fold then 100 fold. Both gospel accounts make the same point: although the entire blessing is already done, we receive it in seed form. There is tremendous power in a seed if only we will give it time to grow, because it will ultimately produce an unlimited amount of fruit. Now if we wrongly expect a seed to immediately bear its fruit, then we become discouraged. This is an opportunity for Satan to choke the word with various cares of the world and eventually uproot it through unbelief.
"Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.", Matthew 13:31-32.
The great thing about seeds is that they produce an ongoing supply of fruit, once fully mature. We read here that even the tiniest of seeds such as the Mustard Seed can grow over time and produce a huge crop of righteousness. The birds of the air will take shelter in the tree that is well established and fruitful, which pictures unbelievers coming to us for salvation. The key to bearing fruit then is to understand that the fruit-bearing process takes time. When you fall into sin, do not allow the Devil to convince you that the seed-planting process is not working. This will only lead you back to the old, religious way of believing for nothing and subsequently receiving nothing. Stand in faith and the seed-planting process will eventually bear a glorious crop of righteousness, such that all people will see that you are called by the name of the Lord.
