It is useful to think of the full gospel in four areas: forgiveness of sin, deliverance from sin on this earth, divine health, and prosperity. It is simple to show that the gospel includes these areas because Jesus manifested all four of them on the earth: he was in right standing with GOD, he lived a sinless life on this earth and he walked in divine health and prosperity. If Jesus lived that way then we should also walk in the same way here on the earth (1 John 4:17). If we miss the mark, or the standard of Christ, then this is what the Bible calls sin. We are falling short of GOD's will for our life.
But how do we receive the full gospel? As Calvin has said, "faith alone saves, but saving faith is never alone". Therefore, as salvation includes these four components, we receive all of them through faith and never through our works. Despite this, we know that works are always present with saving faith and works complete our faith (James 2: 22). So to adapt the saying of Calvin for the full gospel era of today:
Faith alone brings forgiveness, but forgiving faith forgives others.
Faith alone delivers, but delivering faith hates sin.
Faith alone heals, but healing faith fights sickness.
Faith alone prospers, but prospering faith is generous.
Truly, the gospel does not come in parts, but the body of Christ has tended to split the gospel and believe only for the parts that they want. Religious people believe only for forgiveness of sin (Mark 2:9-11); social-gospel people believe only for the deliverance from sin; desperate people believe only for healing; and greedy people believe only for prosperity. In reality, we can not have part of a person and we should not pick & choose the parts of Jesus that we want. We should consider that Jesus possessed many others qualities aside from the four we have mentioned. The good news is that all of these things are ours in Chris Jesus!
